These here are all my ceramic works
in the Ceramics 370, Spring 2011

Our First work. It was an experiment and
it was a brilliant turn about.











This is an example of our Domon Jar.
After weeks of work, it turned out very good.












The status figure work was another awesome challenge.












A little fun, a little HUGE shot glass.











This was for my 322 class.
It is my incense holder.







Another example for 322.
It is for holding holy water and sprinkling it around on people.













My Own Coffee Mug.










A friend of mine had his eyes on it before
it was ready. Even as you are on this blog, the mug is
on his office table.










I decided to make a little Christmas gift for my sister.








I call this cup Mr. Tomato.
It's got don't see, hear or speak evil faces on its sides.








Just another random work to learn from self.
I am glad these are all founctional.












This is a vessel for the kitchen, hence I had fire as its design.












A Bean Pot.












For Gravy or soups.











Since, I had all organic designs on it, I shall use
this for my favorite drink ... milk.










What's the point of all those coffee mug without
a friendly side of kettle.











Definitely a salad bowl.









For pottery.












One of my dearest bowls.










Finally, I have my own piggy bank.
I shall use it and hang on to it for as long as I can.
I told my friend that I am going to change the world with it.











My Locker is happy to have so many company.
I was happy to have so many accomplishment.

Art 370, is one of my favorite studio classes.
I love being an art student.

Fire Kiln Firing Day

April 13th, 2011 was our Fire Kiln day

The Kiln was fitted with all our ceramics works and sealed off
to keep the temperature maintained.

We chopped and cut fire wood all morning. After prepping we fired
kiln and kept working on it until the temperature had
finally reached 2300F (plus).

A fun to start with a funny guy.
Blake is one of the hardest working students.

Kolina was tagged our fire scientist. We had to use the metal plane to play with fire. We had to keep the fire consistent and remove the extra ashes.

Every one was excited about being out here today.









These girls were working all day.









We were all taking turns taking pictures.









We were all simply enjoying the day.












Of course, we had to enjoy the day. Nothing beats a good afternoon, sunny BBQ and treats.








The Fire looks beautiful.









Blake started in the morning and ended up there all night through.
We needed to be careful loading the Kiln as the temperature was very
high and the wood caught fire in no less than 2 seconds.











We had to take turns filling the Kiln on each side. We also had to remember to close up the doors on either side to prevent fire from
going wild.







Being careful is part of the job.












Finally we reached to our temperature goal.
Now the matter was only of maintaining the temperature and
holding it up until we had close down for the day.





We shall see most of the works in the building and other blogs.

Ceramics Starting

These are my works from the
beginning of the semester

This class was challenging to me personally as I had suffered
a wrist injury which I yet haven't recovered from very well.
Regardless, I had a great time.

This is our first work in class. This vessel was our
first learning process. Making the clay, molding it to
remove air, and working on joining different
parts of making the body. This body had a 6-7 inch
requirement in height.









The other part that seemed hard was glazing.
The glaze itself is hard to work with, but after you
get the habit of it, it's all about creativity.
Firing kiln and seeing the the work come out is a great moment.







Working on our first Domon jar.






We used the same concept as we did to create our first vessel.
In this case we had to make a jar almost 17-18 inches high.





I had to be in school for almost all weekends.
It did feel good to work on things and realize it had been almost
8 hours, when I was sure it had been only 30 minutes.





Now that things are taking shape, we usually keep
them moist so we can work it on the next day without
a possibility of cracks and errors.











Yes, these glazes are a real pain, when you are running out of time.
Just a little work and its all good to go.







Now the leather hard vase had come out of the kiln
and has it's shape. We can start glazing it.











It needs much work, but after this we can put it back in the kiln.
Once the glaze melts and sticks to the jar it attains its final form.








This is how it looks like, once it's all finished.








The best part about creating works is, they are all functional.









This was our third work, our second project.
We were to create a figure provided to us by our teacher (as shown).
The result didn't needed to be perfect, our goal was to understand the concept of working with figures.







We used a different clay material and different spray,
as this work was going to the fire kiln outside
(pictures in other blog).












He looks like a comic.












We just had to use our imagination to fill the back side of the figure.










Only being able to use two under-glazes this result was a complete
surprise. The Fire kiln with temperatures reaching up to 2300F (and more) does strange works on the statues and work inside of it.



I am still happy with the strange texture that formed around it.
We had no idea what to expect,
it felt good to hold it in my own hands.
